While there are the obvious methods of decluttering, dusting, vacuuming, and mopping, there are many tasks and places that are commonly missed during spring cleaning. If you really want to give your home a thorough deep cleaning, give some attention to the following often forgotten areas.

Spring Cleaning for Baseboards

Baseboards can turn dingy and age over time. When they are not cleaned regularly, a layer of dust and grime will settle on them. Include baseboards in your spring cleaning regimen. Since you want to clean from top to bottom, scrub the baseboards just before cleaning the floors.

Fan Blades

The tops of ceiling fan blades are not visible, but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored during spring cleaning. When ceiling fans are covered in dust, they circulate dust throughout the whole room whenever they’re running.

Use a long-handled duster to dust the top of all the ceiling fan blades, and dust the edges and undersides too. This is also a great time to reverse the direction of the blades for cooling in warmer weather.

Trash Cans

It is important to deep-clean the receptacle that holds messes and trash if you want to keep a sanitary house. Garbage bags can leak and the inside of your trash can will begin to smell bad if it isn’t cleaned periodically.

After taking the trash out, bring your trash can outside and spray it out with a hose. Scrub it with dish soap and then rinse it out again. Let it air dry in the sun or wipe it dry with paper towels. You’ll help to prevent bad odors and ant infestations when you complete this spring cleaning task.

Cleaning Equipment

Most homeowners don’t think about cleaning the tools that they use to clean. Vacuums, mops, brooms, and dustpans naturally get dirty from the dirt and debris they are always cleaning up. Run your mop heads through the laundry, wipe down all of your cleaning equipment, and wash or replace your vacuum’s filter. Once these items are freshened up, they’ll be more effective at cleaning your home.

Window Treatment Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning your glass windows and doors clears away bugs and dust and lets more sunlight in. You may wipe down the window glass, but are the blinds and curtains getting clean? Remove drapes and curtains and run them through the wash, following the instructions on the tag. Remove blinds from the windows and soak them in a bathtub of soapy water. Let them dry completely before hanging back up.

Follow these tips for a more thorough spring cleaning job than last year. You’ll notice the difference in your home.
